Admission Requirements

To enroll in the Escambia County Adult Programs, the student must: 

  1. Be at least 16 years of age or older.
  2. Have an age waiver on file. (GED students ages 16-17 only)
  3. Have a TABE score less than One (1) year old.
  4. Be officially withdrawn from the K-12 program.
  5. Complete a registration packet.
  6. Not be expelled from an educational institution.
  7. Provide necessary residency documentation.
  8. Pay the tuition fees ($30).
  9. Attend orientation prior to attending first class.

Description of Programs

Adult Basic Education - (ABE)
Education for adults whose academic skills are below the ninth (9th) grade level. This program is open-entry/open-exit and competency based.

Applied Academics for Adult Education (AAAE)

Education for adults enrolled in a Post-Secondary Program whose academic skills are below ninth (9th) grade level. This program is open-entry/open-exit and competency based. Formerly VPI.

General Education Development (GED)

Education for those adults to obtain the necessary skills to pass the GED assessment and earn a high school diploma. This program is open-entry/open-exit and competency based.

GED Preparatory Programs

Instruction is given to the students in the areas assessed by the official GED exam. Students enrolling into the GED Preparation program must have a minimum score of 9.0 on each section of the TABE assessment.

If a student scores below 9.0 on any section of the TABE, he or she may enroll in an Adult Basic Education (ABE) class for remediation prior to entering the GED Preparatory Classes.

Co-Enrolled

Education for those students who are currently enrolled in a 9th to 12th grade high school program and are taking core credit courses through adult education in order to graduate with their cohort group. Co-enrolled students must present signed permission forms from the home school counselor, principal, or principal designee.
